Data integration software maker Informatica announced a deal with Composite Software that will add enterprise information integration (EII) capabilities to Informatica's PowerCenter platform.

Under terms of the agreement, the companies will offer Composite's Information Server as a complement to PowerCenter beginning in the second quarter of this year, and then release a fully integrated package of the two technologies this fall. The vendors are conducting joint development activities, sharing intellectual property, code and engineering plans, Informatica said.

EII is the enabling of on-the-fly, federated views of data from multiple information sources, combined with real-time reporting. EII does not require users to gather data within a central repository such as a data warehouse.

Informatica recently announced plans to add federated-querying functionality to its platform by late 2006. Today's news is expected to accelerate the development of that capability to coincide with the "Zeus" release of PowerCenter slated for later this year.

The combination of the two technologies will make it possible for customers to access quickly evolving transactional data from their PowerCenter software and combine that information with historical information pulled from data warehouses.

Like PowerCenter, Composite's technology is based on a services-oriented architecture that's designed to promote reuse of objects, views and services. Both platform employ a graphical interface for development and management.
