BMC Software Inc. will extend its data-management product line to include data-synchronization capabilities through an alliance with GoldenGate Software Inc. that the companies are expected to announce on Tuesday. The addition will improve data availability for users, make database administrators more productive, and lower operating costs by reducing the need for additional hardware and software, BMC says.
Under terms of the deal, BMC will resell GoldenGate's real-time data-synchronization software. That product will be integrated with BMC's SmartDBA portfolio of data-management applications, including the SmartDBA Cockpit database-monitoring software and Enterprise Data Viewer software that gives managers a view of database alerts and activities. The development work will be completed in three to six weeks, says William Donahoo, BMC's business development VP.
The combined abilities of the vendors' products will help automate the process of pulling data from multiple sources for operational applications and data-analysis tasks, says Jasmine Noel, principal of analyst firm JNoel and Associates. The extended BMC product line also will make data-administration chores easier, she says.
