device management
(1) Activating and controlling the peripheral devices in a computer. The operating system is generally responsible for device management, which is embodied in the device drivers. Sometimes, device management routines are run without an OS, such as in small embedded systems, or outside of the OS as in early DOS systems. See operating system.

(2) Configuring multiple devices within an organization such as desktop PCs, laptops and mobile devices. See SyncML.
